In Defense of the Free Market System
Some may say that the United States Free-Market System is evil and completely indefensible but I will tell you what others who claim to speak for conservatives cannot bring themselves to proclaim! We practice our brand of economics because of our Judeo-Christian Worldview. Keep reading my friend and I will skillfully defend the Free-Market as the only equitable Earthly system in existence today.
In the beginning, and I mean literally, God spoke everything into existence and since the first inception of time, space, and matter, the universe has been expanding. As a part of this every growing, ever expanding creation, we too are free and without certain limits.
Yes, I know that there are some limits to what we can do in the physical world but in the worlds of imagination, innovation, and even economics, even the sky fails to limit mankind. With this unfettered freedom, we know that great error is also possible. Because man is created free he is able to choose to use these powers for selfish and sometimes, evil intentions as well as for truly philanthropic causes. In all this, there still rings a universal truth. The infinite God created an economy whereby anyone could become as good or as evil as they could imagine. Hitler used his charisma for what was thought to be unimaginable evil. Stalin chose to enslave and brutalize his own people killing some 20 million people in the process. Our own Supreme Court legalized infanticide some 40 years ago twisting and mauling the most essential premises of the Bill of rights without regard. At the same time, many wonderful men and women have sacrificed all for the sake of freedom. Countless souls paid the ultimate price, their own lives, in defense of these simple principles. Others have surrendered fortunes for the sake of the least of these. Those who've had no money have labored, prayed, written, and sang the songs of encouragement that strengthen all of us to walk one more mile.
Here is the point. God is without limits...He is infinite. And because He is infinite, he has entrusted free people with the ability to work for what they want and need. Those who are blessed with talent and creativity succeed a little further and provide opportunities for others. Many simply use what they acquire to help their friends and family. Even those who don't help as much as they should still purchase and spend feeding the economy of those who lives are directly and indirectly intertwined with their own.
When the Free-Market is hampered, the state by necessity of a vacuum, steps in to fill the void. She makes for a ruthless mistress extracting greedily from people's livelihoods to support the elites and the elected in their excess. When she gives to the needy, she does it without regard to morality or accountability for she is headless and heartless at best. When she is well drunken with the lifeblood of the middle-class and moralist, she relegates all but her bedfellows to abject poverty. In her soiled wake bobs the lifeless body of a once proud populous with only a scant pulse left supporting the meanest of existence. If she has her way, freedom with never see the light of day again.
But this is why we fight! We believe in a righteous system whereby men and women who have a conscience toward God even as our forbearers had can speak of such freedom. We believe in God who spoke one ever expanding word of creative freedom setting the worlds in order...governing them by His edict and law. We fight because we understand the power of such words...words that set men free and make freedom accessible by effort, struggle, and most of all, by birthright.
Yes despised Tyrants! We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
When tyranny rampages we must withdraw our consent and begin again to lobby for the cause of freedom.
Why do I defend this American Free-Market system? Is it because we are somehow superior? No! Is it because I believe that all Americans will do good with what they possess? No! It's simply because I believe the Words of the One after whom freedom in this present life is patterned. And there are very many of us who will carry out the mandate to care for the less fortunate among us. The thought of a godless bureaucracy filling the vacuum is certainly unimaginable.
